Episode 138 | The Leadership Declaration
What if your leadership isn't being shaped by your intentions?
What if it's already being shaped by the behaviors you repeat every single day?
That's the question I've been wrestling with, and it's why I recorded this episode.
Last week we talked about the leadership cells that quietly trap good leaders. We talked about the habits we slip into, the conversations we avoid, and the behaviors we tolerate until they become normal. But recognizing the problem is only the first step. At some point, every leader has to decide who they're going to become.
That's where declarations come in.
Not motivational quotes. Not wishful thinking. Not another list of goals you'll forget in a month.
A declaration is a decision. It's a commitment you make before your circumstances get a vote.
In this episode, I share the declarations that I believe have the power to reshape the way we lead. They aren't complicated, but they are challenging. Accountability is respect—not punishment. Clarity is one of the greatest gifts you can give another human being. Hope is a beautiful virtue, but it will never replace intentional leadership. Every behavior you tolerate teaches your team what you'll accept, and every choice you make today is creating the leader your team will experience tomorrow.
As I recorded this episode, one thought kept coming back to me.
We spend a lot of time writing mission statements, defining values, and talking about the culture we want. But our people don't experience what we framed on the wall. They experience what we demonstrate every day.
Culture doesn't change because leaders declare something.
Culture changes because leaders demonstrate something.
So before you listen, I want to leave you with one question.
If your team had to write a declaration based solely on your behavior over the past thirty days, what would it say?
That's the real declaration.
And if the answer makes you uncomfortable, good.
Discomfort has always been the starting point for growth.
I hope this conversation challenges you to lead with greater courage, greater clarity, and greater intention. More than anything, I hope it reminds you that leadership isn't something you arrive at—it's something you choose, one behavior at a time.
